STUDENT INFORMATION COMPROMISED: INTACT RECORDS FOUND
www.amarillo.com – Amarillo, Texas

December 10, 2009- Student records from a Texas elementary school were found in a recycling dumpster. The records contained family income information, social security numbers, and student addresses. Bushland Independent School District has launched an internal investigation into the incident. While school district officials initially believed that someone may have illegally obtained the records, the local Sheriff’s office found no evidence of wrongdoing, and the reason for the careless discarding of the records is likely the result of employee actions. As a result the District has focused its efforts on ensuring that the proper measures are in place to prevent any future incidents.
