FINANCE COMPANY THROWS PERSONAL INFORMATION IN THE DUMPSTER

January 12, 2010- An investigation by NBC 6 reporter Karen Hopkins led to the discovery of dozens of records containing sensitive financial data on retirees in a dumpster. The records, belonging to local financial planning company SouthTrust, contained social security numbers along with account numbers. When contacted local police stated that Louisiana law does not make SouthTrust’s actions a crime—though local citizens and customers may disagree.
