UK APPROVES HIGHER FINES FOR VIOLATING THE DATA PROTECTION ACT
The Register
12th January 2010
As discussed in a previous article, in response to an open request from the UK Ministry of Justice last month, NAID-Europe submitted an official comment supporting an increase in maximum fines to firms breaching the Data Protection Act to £500,000. We are happy to report that due to such responses and mounting pressure from the Information Commissioner’s Office, the increased the fine structure was approved by Jack Straw, the UK’s justice minister, and presented to Parliament on 12 January. The new fines will be enforced beginning 6 April of this year.
